Rubha nan Gall.

Start. Tobermory.

Route. Tobermory - Life Boat Station - Rubha na Leip - Rubha Nan Gall - Rubha na Leip - Life Boat Station - Tobermory.

Notes. Standing to the north of Tobermory accessed from a path honed out of the steep cliff face stands Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse built by the grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson, this was to be our destination for this morning, just a short leg warmer to start the week.

Our route took us past the brightly coloured buildings on Tobermory seafront, behind the ferry buildings a path climbs through woodland, this clings to steep slopes with stunning views to the Morvern Hills, we follow this path with steep drops to our right until we reach Rubha nan Gall. From the lighthouse the views are quite extensive, to the north Bloody Bay, across Loch Sunart Ardnamurchan, to the right across the Sound of Mull Morvern and further to the right Calve Island in Tobermory Bay. After spending quite a while taking it all in we made our way back along the same path stopping at a stone seat and viewfinder before entering the woods once more.

A picture postcard image of Tobermory, if the kids are looking Balamory.

In the other direction, the rather plane building hidden by trees far left, were once the Bonded Warehouses belonging to the Tobermory Distillery, now apartments, our home for the week.

The remains of a Gun Carriage passed early on the walk, it is presumed the cannon and wheels were used for scrap metal during the war.

Views across Tobermory Bay taking in Calve Island and Aros Park.

The shimmering waters of Tobermory Bay, through the gap stretching to the south the Sound Of Mull.

Every now and then we got stunning views through breaks in the trees, this being Ben Hiant across the western reaches of the Sound of Mull.

Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse marks the western exit from the Sound of Mull,

Sue poses for this shot in front of the keepers cottages, now private housing.

Wonderful views over the Sound of Mull with Bloody Bay to the left and Ardnamurchan Peninsula to the right.

Looking back the way we came, Calve Island is just visible round the point.

A final look back before heading back to Tobermory.
